The world currency betweenbanks market of FOREX, possibility of output on which appeared for the Ukrainian investors, received a nowadays look in the end of 1970s, after cessation of the Bretton-Vuds system of adjusting of international rates of exchange in 1971 and passing to the "floating courses". It is the only world market, operating 24 hours per day. Possibility of work at the financial markets of Asia, Europe and America became accessible due to their association in one global communication network. Access to the currency market 24 hours a days allows to open and close positions in the most favorable time and at the best price.

On this market, which is working around-the-clock and is the most liquid market in the world, daily over 1 trillion US dollars are bought and sold, the contracts of purchase-sale of currency with the term from one day to 12 months and made. Basic currencies at this market are a US dollar, euro, Japanese yena, Swiss franc and English pound sterling, and market participants are banks and houses of brokerages, corporations and export-import firms, different funds, individual investors.

Operations at the currency market are today one of basic sources of profit of banks in the whole world. For example, 80% of all income of the largest swiss bank of "Union Bank of Switzerland" (UBS) in 1994 made the operations of conversions with currencies and only 20% of all income made profits from credits, trade of securities, etc (see financial statement of "UBS Annual Report of 1994"). Profits from the operations of currencies at the market of FOREX stand on the first place similarly and at such banks as Citibank, Chase Manhatten Bank, Barclays Bank, Sosiete Generale Bank & Trust, ABN-AMRO Bank.
